Optimized Preparation of Methyl Salicylate Hydrogel and Its Inhibition Effect on Potato Tuber Sprouting

Potato tuber sprout results in nutrient loss and solanine production. Essential oils have been mentioned to reduce sprouting; however, they can easily evaporate decompose, thus restricting their application. In this paper, the inhibition effect of methyl salicylate (MeSA) as main component wintergreen essential oil on sprouting was evaluated, MeSA hydrogel prepared by using ionic gel method improve efficiency. Based SEM, FTIR, XRD, DSC images, encapsulated successfully calcium alginate hydrogel, thermal stability improved. direct fumigation released sharply first day, while slowly steadily; release content 0.0085 mg mL−1 7th day. The optimized formulations were follows: 1.9% sodium alginate, 2.2% CaCl2, 1.9:1 core–wall ratio, 0.15% Tween-80. better than that pure at 18 days, rates 42.50% 13.33%, corresponding indexes 8.57% 2.86%, respectively. found inhibit potato for time paper; enhance inhibitory sprouting.
